Kirkus Discoveries, New York, NY:
A star is assigned to books of unusual merit, determined by the editors of Kirkus Reviews. (Robert Frost's “good neighbor” in Vermont not only builds fences, he writes poems – and writes them well. After a distinguished 50-plus year career as a New Jersey lawyer and public servant, Wiley turned to poetry to celebrate memories of long-vanished family (and folkways), city life and – most lyrically – the pleasures of summer life in the Vermont countryside. Travel to Hero Island (It's real- by book or road for a relaxing visit with a poet new to letters, but not to life.

BookWireReview:
The amazing clarity of thought and fluidity of this book catches the fascination of the reader from the initial description of hero island. The smooth flow of words instantly lures the reader into forming an intimate relationship with this book. Wiley creates a new world on the island where mankind is given another chance to rethink the past and learn from its mistakes.

TCM REVIEWS:
Yesterday afternoon, I sat in my backyard and read this collection of poems. It was a beautiful summer day. Perhaps it was the perfect day
for contemplation. Mockingbird Come Home brought me back to a million memories that I had forgotten and details of the magic of everyday life that normally seem to get lost in the chaos of my regular life.

A Humble World Comes to Life - Mockingbird Come Home

“Mockingbird Come Home” is the second book of poetry written by Stephen B. Wiley. He separates his poems into three areas of his book. The first is “Where We Live.” In this part, he writes mainly about places in Vermont, New Jersey, and Florida. Each poem has its own flavor, so that you know the place he is writing about is distinctive. The second part is titled, “Who We Are.” In this section he muses about his experiences surrounding youth, life, and death. In the final part, “Poems on Poetry,” Mr. Wiley intersperses poems about poetry throughout the book. These poems stand out because they are typed in bold face print and placed on the opposite sides of the page of the other poems.

Upclose & Personal - INSIDE SCOOP LIVE

As he did in Hero Island, his first acclaimed collection of poems, Wiley shows us the world we live in and the simple acts of living with a fresh and observant eye. Come with him to watch the circles that ripple on Foote's Pond or gaze in awe at the cherry tree, as magnificent as a Botticelli, when it comes into full bloom. Or share his bemusement as he contemplates the design and functioning of his elbows.
